United Mountain Cur Association

Minutes from Spring, 2010

Outgoing President Spiceland called meeting to order, thanked Ted Lowe and Company for holding the hunt and all their hard work. The hat was passed to cover some of the food and the new Officers and Board of Directors were announced.

Incoming President Kevin Dulaney took over and conducted the meeting.

New V.P. John Meares brought up the following things that were discussed by many the night before and they were passed by the quorum Of Executive committee members that were present to continue to improve our hunt rules.

1. A new point scale will be used by bench show judges giving a total of 100 points or less for dogs shown on the bench. The Judges will give up to 25 points for each of the following 4 categories: Head(including Bite), Legs, Body, and feet to try and standardize judging.

2.Treeing contest will be held in and area that gives at least a 15 foot radius around the tree. If dog gets out of 15 foot radius it will be disqualified.

3. Owners with more than one dog in a contest hunt may pay a $5 fee to go to the UMCA and use a handler that is not a UMCA member IF and only IF the owner is present and handling another dog in said event. The owner is responsible for the actions of the non-member handler.

4.The $5 handler fee will be waived if the handler is 17 years old or younger.

5.In the coon or squirrel hunt the judge may invoke a stationary rule if a dog is treeing and has not been called. The handler has 3 minutes once the rule is invoked to either call their dog treed on call the dog on. This was passed to prevent the impediment of the rest of the cast when a dog was not being called treed.

6. In a UMCA nite hunt championship points will only be given to the dogs that finish with Plus points. You will not longer be able receive championship points for circle points only.

7.If 15 or more dogs are in a hunt 6th thru 10th places will earn 10 championship points each. All other places remain the same.

8. Dog of the Year award will be discussed by the V.P and a committee chosen by him and will be brought before the membership present at the fall meeting. IT will be discussed and possibly voted on at that time.

9. Combination dog will be chosen by total Championship points earned at a hunt first. Next total Plus points will be considered.

President Dulaney reported that the UMCA had $7600 in the bank at this time.

Beginning in 2011 the Dyersburg hunt will be moved to the fall because of the flooding problems we have experienced in the Spring. Anyone interested in holding the Spring Hunt each year please notify President Dulaney or V.Pres Meares.

Motion was made, seconded and approved to Pay Mrs. Beth Snider $500 each year to do our yearbook due to the great job she did with our first yearbook and desiring to continue to have a quality Year book.

Beginning on 9/1/2010 UMCA club sponsored hunts are expected to be advertised in Full Cry. It will not cause cancellation of hunt if it is not advertised in Full Cry but is definitely desired.

Donny Bennett will look into getting UMCA shirts and the cost and the Executive committee will make a decision on whether are not it is financially feasible.

Meeting was adjourned.

Minutes recorded by Secretary Mickey Spiceland

Minutes from May 9, 2009

Donny Bennett was thanked for getting the Sportmix dog food for the hunt and his continued work in getting them to sponsor hunts.

Discussion of a future UMCA World Hunt was held and if a suitable place can be found one may be held in the next year. Several thought Dyersburg was a good central location and seemed to have plenty of game. Mr. Ted Lowe was going to look into hosting one there next Winter.

Mr. Barry Sherrell thought it would be good if we had a UMCA Banner as well as the Sportmix banners for each hunt. MR. Donny Bennett thought he could get us one made and was to look into it.

The topic of using DNA to register multiple sired litters was brought up by Mr. Jon Binkley. After much discussion Mr. Terry Snider made the following motion:

"The UMCA will register multiple sired litters when the sire of each pup is verified by DNA if the following stipulations are met.

1. All Stud Dogs and the Dam involved in multiple sired litters must be UMCA registered prior to litter registration.

2. All dogs involved must be DNA-ed before litter registration and each puppy involved must be permanently marked (tattoo, freeze branding, etc.)

3. Advance notice must be given to the UMCA registrar before litter registration of the multiple sired litter."

The motion was seconded by Mr. Jon Binkley and the motion carried Unanimously.

Mr. Donny Bennett stated that he planned to hold another hunt in Franklin, Tn. later this year or early next.

Mr. Ted Lowe motioned that the meeting be adjourned, Mr. Jon Binkley seconded, and the motion carried. Meeting was adjourned.
